Sacred Heart Academy to dedicate field

Via press release:

Sacred Heart Academy will hold a ribbon cutting and re-dedication ceremony of the newly renovated E. William Iovanne Softball Field on Thursday at 3 p.m. Following the ribbon cutting and rededication, the varsity softball team will play North Haven at 3:45 p.m.. A rain date is set for Friday.

Through the generosity of several donors, the Academy’s softball field has recently undergone an extensive $125,000 plus renovation to meet the requirements of the National Federation of High School Athletics. Updates include new perimeter fencing, a new backstop, modernized plexiglass dugouts and new bleachers, a new clay infield with a retaining wall and drainage system, and a new handicap/emergency vehicle access road. Earl Tucker of Empire Paving of North Haven is the general contractor. Branford residents Earl Tucker, and his wife Mary Lavallee Tucker – SHA Class of 1984, are the parents of three SHA graduates and one current student. Fundraising for the project was started in 2009, with construction beginning in the fall of 2010.

According to Athletic Director, George Bedocs …” This renovation has brought Sacred Heart to the forefront in the state of Connecticut as a softball facility.”
