SCC Tournament Predictions

Here are my picks for this year's tournament:

Quarterfinals
Thursday

No. 8 North Haven at No. 1 Foran, 4 p.m.
The top-seeded Lions have won 15 straight games. The two did not play during the regular season.
Register's Pick: Foran.

No. 7 SHA at No. 2 Sheehan, 3:45 p.m.
Sheehan is playing as well as any team in the league right now. SHA won at Wallingford 4-0 on April 9 before the Titans prevailed with a 9-0 victory this past Saturday in Hamden.
Register's Pick: Sheehan.

No. 6 Mercy at No. 3 Amity, 3:45 p.m.
This has been a pretty intense rivalry in recent years, although the two didn't meet during the regular season this year. Both have strong pitching and defense, but give the edge offensively to Amity.
Register's Pick: Amity

No. 5 Cheshire at No. 4 West Haven, 7 p.m.
Could be the most competitive of the four quarterfinals. Cheshire defeated the Westies twice in the regular season, shutting West Haven out both times. Can the Rams make it three in a row over the Westies?
Register's Pick: Cheshire.

Semifinals
Saturday at 3 and 5 p.m. at West Haven
No. 1 Foran vs. No. 5 Cheshire: Can Foran continue its lengthy winning streak against a team it did not see during the regular season? Both teams hit the ball and have sound pitching. The first team to make a mistake here will likely not advance.
Register's Pick: Cheshire.

No. 2 Sheehan vs. No. 3 Amity: These SCC Housatonic Division rivals split their two meetings during the regular season. Both contests were decided by one run. The rubber match should be just as exciting.
Register's Pick: Amity.

Final
Sunday at 2 p.m. at West Haven
No. 5 Cheshire vs. No. 3 Amity: The SCC Housatonic Division was arguably the most competitive of the four divisions this year in the SCC. So it won't be too surprising to see these division foes square off for the title. Amity's depth—the Spartans have as many as five pitchers to choose from—may be the difference here, especially since the recent inclement weather forced teams to play multiple times this past week to finish up the regular season schedule.
Register's Pick: Amity.
