Colleges: SCSU, New Haven split

WEST HAVEN — A split of Tuesday’s doubleheader didn’t satisfy either the New Haven or Southern Connecticut State softball team.

It didn’t hurt either.

New Haven won the Northeast-10 Conference opener 4-2 before Jayme Larson threw a four-hit shutout in the second game as the Owls rolled to a 7-0 decision. With the split, both teams remained planted where they started Tuesday, the Owls in control of the NE-10 and the Chargers holding down the eighth and final conference playoff spot.

Naugatuck’s Alana Wesche (13-8) picked up a win and a loss on the day. The hard-throwing junior allowed one earned run in four innings to win the opener. Brooke Fisher, Shannon Angehr and Lucy Francisco had RBIs for New Haven.
