Dani Thuerling and Kayla Humphrey combined for a two-hit shutout as the Sheehan softball team upset Mercy, the No. 2 team in the Register Top 10 poll, 3-0 in a Southern Connecticut Conference interdivision game Thursday at Middletown.
Holli Ryan went 2-for-3 and scored for the Titans (1-1).
Ansonia 4, Watertown 3: Kristen Mooney hit a solo home run, and Ashley Bowns had two hits for the host Chargers in a Naugatuck Valley League victory. Ansonia is 1-1.
West Haven 6, Wilbur Cross 0: Shannon Connor had two singles and a double to lead the Westies to an SCC interdivision victory at West Haven.
Elaina Maio had two hits, an RBI and scored twice, and Jocie Morrell had three hits for West Haven (1-0).
