No. 2 seed in sight for West Haven

If West Haven defeats North Haven Wednesday night (at Biondi Field, 7 p.m.), the Westies will earn the No. 2 seed for next week's SCC tournament. Foran has already clinched the top seed.

West Haven is currently 11-5 overall and 10-3 during the all-important crossover games, which determine seeding.

After losing three of their first five games, the Westies have won nine of their last 11.

"We're pretty satisfied," West Haven senior captain Shannon Connor said. "Even though we have five losses, the biggest thing is we're playing as a team right now."

West Haven went 6-0 and won the Quinnipiac Division, earning the team an automatic berth into the SCC tourney.

"It's awesome," Connor said. "Every year since my freshman year, Mercy has always been the team that has always beat us and always won the division. This year, to beat them twice, is just awesome."

West Haven coach Frank Biondi has been pleased with his team's performance.

"It's been a great year," Biondi said. "We lost a lot of great players from last year. It's a great thing for me to see these seniors step up."
