Wednesday in Review

SOFTBALL: Haddam-Killingworth outlasts North Branford in key Shoreline Conference contest

NORTH BRANFORD — Haddam-Killingworth and North Branford both entered Wednesday’s contest unbeaten in the Shoreline Conference Large Division.

So it was rather fitting that the game wasn’t decided until the final out.

The host Thunderbirds scored once in the bottom of the seventh inning on a passed ball, but left the bases loaded when shortstop Lauren McCann snared a line drive to record the final out.

The Cougars survived with a thrilling 6-5 victory at Totoket Park.

H-K catcher Casey Jackson’s RBI single broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh, and then Caroline Fortuna drove in pinch runner Julia Gabbitt with the eventual winning run.
