Coginchaug loses in Class S semifinal

Top-seeded Terryville manufactured four straight hits in the fifth inning, capped by a two-run single by senior clean-up hitter Taryn Vigeant to emerge with a 2-0 victory over No. 4 Coginchaug in the Class S state semifinals.

Pitcher Beth Grimes did the rest as the senior allowed just two hits, struck out 12 and didn’t allow a walk for Terryville, which advanced to one previous final in 1984, where it lost to Ellington.

Jessica Plourde had an infield single and Kayla Votta also singled for the Blue Devils’ only hits off Grimes.
