CHSCA All-Star game tonight

The CHSCA 28th Annual Senior All-Star Softball Game onTuesday June 15, 2010. This event will take place at the NORTHHAVEN ATHLETIC COMPLEX - 222 MAPLE AVENUE - (OLD HIGH SCHOOL LOCATION).The S/M East vs. the S/M West will begin at 5 with the L/LL East vs. theL/LL West starting at 7.

NVL All-Star Game

The First Annual NVL All-Star Softball Game will take place on Tuesday, June 22nd at the Naugatuck High School Athletic Facility. Game time is 6 p.m. No admission charge. Come see some of the best senior talent from this past season play in an exciting seven inning game. Sponsored by the Waterbury Softball Umpires. Concession stand will open for yourconvenience.

St. Joe's wins Class M

St. Joe's defeated Lauralton Hall 3-2 to win the Class M state championship.

Sophomore Taryn Figmic had a two-run double for the Cadettes (23-4), who won their fifth state championship.

St. Joe's leads 3-0 in Class M final

St. Joes scored its first run on an error, and then padded its lead on a two-run single by Taryn Figmic as the Cadettes take a 3-0 lead after three innings.

Fitch's Turgeon named Gatorade State Player of Year

Fitch junior shortstop Brianna Turgeon was named the Gatorade state player of the year. Turgeon batted .500 with 28 RBIs, 23 runs and three home runs, while leading the Falcons to a 16-5 record and an appearance in the Class LL second round.

Turgeon has verbally committed to play softball on scholarship at the University of Connecticut beginning in the fall of 2011.

Coginchaug loses in Class S semifinal

Top-seeded Terryville manufactured four straight hits in the fifth inning, capped by a two-run single by senior clean-up hitter Taryn Vigeant to emerge with a 2-0 victory over No. 4 Coginchaug in the Class S state semifinals.

Pitcher Beth Grimes did the rest as the senior allowed just two hits, struck out 12 and didn’t allow a walk for Terryville, which advanced to one previous final in 1984, where it lost to Ellington.

Jessica Plourde had an infield single and Kayla Votta also singled for the Blue Devils’ only hits off Grimes.

Lauralton Hall advances to Class M final

Sophomore shortstop Marisa Dowling had a two-run single in the second inning to lift the eighth-seeded Lauralton Hall softball team to a 3-1 victory over No. 4 Griswold in the Class M state semifinals Monday at DeLuca Field in Stratford.

The Crusaders (21-4), who are ranked ninth in the Register Top 10 Poll, will play the winner of the Monday night semifinal between Wolcott and St. Joseph for the championship either Friday or Saturday.

Winning pitcher Hayley Spragg allowed just four hits and helped herself with two hits and an RBI for Lauralton Hall.

Griswold finished its season at 23-4.

No. 1 Waterford 1, No. 8 Lyman Hall 0 (8): Bailey Frankewicz’ RBI single lifted the Lancers over the Trojans in the a quarterfinal game at Waterford.
Kelli Connors tossed a two-hitter for Waterford (22-0), the top ranked team in the Register Poll.
Lauren Zambrano struck out 10 for Lyman Hall (17-7).

CLASS M
No. 7 St. Joseph 2, No. 2 Rocky Hill 0 (9): Kristen Chacho’s RBI single in the top of the ninth lifted St. Joseph to a quarterfinal win over host Rocky Hill.
Melissa Russell and Breana Shepard each had two hits for eighth ranked St. Joseph (20-3). Rocky Hill finishes 22-2.

No. 4 Griswold 3, No. 5 Woodland 0: Winning pitcher Taylor Lane allowed two hits, struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter to lead the Wolverines to this quarterfinal victory.
Jess Synott had two hits, including an RBI double, and a run for Griswold (23-3). Seventh ranked Woodland finishes at 22-4.

Newtown advances to semifinals

Top-seeded, and unbeaten, Newtown scored four times in the fifth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit and rally past No. 8 West Haven 8-2 in Class LL. The Nighthawks, ranked No. 2 in the Register Top 10 Poll, added four more runs in the sixth inning.

Senior pitcher Kate Bowen allowed 10 hits but buckled down late in the game to earn the win. She added three hits. Newtown is 25-0.

Samantha Johnson, Jocey Morrell, Joanna Fekieta and Allison Standish each had two hits for the Westies (19-6).
